The Queer Rosh Chodesh Group will draw on the tradition of feminist Rosh Chodesh gatherings to explore the themes of the upcoming Jewish month through a queer lens. This month we’ll talk about how to engage with self-improvement and self-criticism when so many of the messages we get as queer people encourage self-doubt rather than empowerment.
The Queer Rosh Chodesh Group will draw on the tradition of feminist Rosh Chodesh gatherings to explore the themes of the upcoming Jewish month through a queer lens. This gathering, led by Based-In DC’s Rabbi Avigayil Halpern, will take place monthly on or before Rosh Chodesh, the first day of the Jewish month. It is open to all queer-identifying Jews in their 20s and 30s. The Queer Rosh Chodesh Group is co-presented by Based-In DC, EntryPointDC, the 20s and 30s program of the Edalvitch DCJCC, and GLOE, the LGBTQ program of the Edlavitch DCJCC.
This meeting – our first! – will focus on how to engage with ideas about self-improvement and self-criticism when so many of the messages we get as queer people encourage self-doubt rather than empowerment, as we enter the Jewish month of Elul, where self-improvement is typically emphasized
You can come to just one, come every month, or whenever suits your fancy! This month we will meet at the Edlavitch DCJCC in Dupont and next month we will meet at Rabbi Avigayil’s home. We will switch off meeting at both locations throughout the rest of the year. Snacks will be provided, feel free to bring your own Kosher dinner.
