Frequently Asked Questions, and their answers!

Camp Home

What are the facilities like?

Campers enjoy state-of-the-art facilities at the Washington EDCJCC, including a gymnasium, dance studio, indoor pool, art classroom, community hall, kitchen classroom, squash/racquetball courts and a theater, plus nearby playgrounds, parks and fields.

Will my child be safe?

The safety and well-being of our campers are our top priorities.  We maintain low camper-to-counselor ratios (on average 7:1) to ensure that our campers are well-supervised at all times.  All staff members are certified in First Aid, and lead counselors are also certified in CPR.

What's the deal with lunch and snacks?
Each day, campers should bring a vegetarian or dairy lunch that is peanut-free.  On Fridays, lunch is on us. Snacks will be provided to campers every day.  Please do not send meat, pork or shellfish.  We are not able to refrigerate lunches, but we recommend freezing their drink the night before and using that as an ice pack in the morning.

How do I get there?
The Washington EDCJCC is conveniently located in the heart of Dupont Circle.  We are four blocks east of the Dupont Circle Metro—Q Street exit; it's a 10-15 minute walk to the J.  Curbside drop-off and pick-up and our adjacent parking lot make it easier for commuting parents.  As camp time nears, we will contact parents who may like to form carpools from their neighborhoods.  We are not able to offer transportation to and from camp.

How can my child join camp?
To reserve a slot in camp, please complete the online registration form, which includes a $200 non-refundable deposit for each child for each session.

Payment may be made online with a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover). If you'd like to pay by check, please contact Greg Feitel for more information: or (202) 777-3270.

Camp registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.  The balance of camp fees, all camp forms, a completed emergency form and an up-to-date health form are due in the Camp Office on Friday, May 26.

Can I get my money back?
No refunds will be made for absences or withdrawals during the camp season (May 26 – August 25).  The Washington EDCJCC reserves the right to request that a camper leave the EDCJCC’s camp because of violation of the camp regulations or because of personal conduct which interferes with the health or welfare of her/himself or others.  If this should occur, no refunds will be given.

What's your cancellation policy?
The Washington DCJCC reserves the right to cancel any camp program due to insufficient enrollment.  Should this occur, we will make every effort to accommodate registered campers in other programs.  If we cannot do so, we will offer a full refund.

Do you have camp discounts?

Yes!  You can take advantage of one of our many available discounts:

Sibling Discount

Families registering one camper for at least one session of camp can receive a 10% discount on their second child’s overall bill and 20% on their third child’s overall bill.  Families receiving the Sibling Discount are not eligible for the Early Bird Discount.  This also applies to older siblings of children in our Preschool; they will receive 10% off their overall bill, too.
Early Bird Discount

Campers registered and paid in full by 3:00 pm Friday, February 3, 2016 will receive 10% off their overall bill. Campers registered and paid in full by 3:00 pm Friday, February 24th will receive 5% off their overall bill.  Families receiving the Early Bird Discount are not eligible for the Sibling Discount.

Partial Sessions

While we think it is best for a camper to stay for a full session, we know that it does not always work out that way for your family’s schedule.  Therefore, we do allow partial-session registration. If you would like to register for a shorter session, we will pro-rate the fees by week with a surcharge of $85 for the week missed.

Multiple Sessions

We offer discounts when a camper signs up for 3 or more sessions of camp.  When registering for 3 sessions of camp, you receive $75 off your total cost.  When registering for 4 sessions of camp, you receive $125 off your total cost. When registering for 5 or more sessions you receive $200 off your total cost.

The Washington EDCJCC campers represent the brilliant diversity of our nation's capital.  We welcome all children, regardless of religion, race or cultural background, to experience our exciting, nurturing camps which incorporate Jewish—and universal—values such as Tikkun Olam (healing the world), Tzedakah (charity) and equal rights for all.

The Paula Seigle Goldman Fund, the Rosayln Hirsch Scholarship Fund, the Shirley Povich Sports Scholarship Fund and the Irving Wallace Fund endowments support the programs of the J’s Summer Day Camp. The Bernard and Etta Watson Science Education Fund also supports programming during camp.
