Jewish education for kids

Here at the EDCJCC we believe that all children should have access to an open and diverse Jewish education. We use a non-denominational approach to develop Jewish identity, straighten intergenerational connections, teach Hebrew and encourage Jewish joy.

Perhaps you send your children to Jewish preschool but are not ready to join a synagogue.  Maybe you recently moved to the area and are trying to create a new social circle for yourself and your children.  Please consider enrolling your child or children in a Jewish education program with us.

At the EDCJCC we have the Yom Rishon program for children from ages 4 through 8 year olds:

Yom Rishon:  A Sunday morning Jewish culture and enrichment program.

Meet our amazing teachers and staff

We invite families with children ages 4 - 9 to the creative process of exploring their heritage, learning about themselves and the world. We invite families who care about family traditions and Jewish values, regardless of their background.

We believe that all children want to learn and explore; we just need to guide and support them on their journey.

We love Jewish traditions and values, Jewish texts and holidays, and we know that every year we find new and exciting ways to inspire your child
and bring learning home.

We explore Hebrew and Jewish topics through songs and games, creative activities, and stories with a strong emphasis on engaging children and giving them ownership over their learning.

We create a diverse community of caring parents, committed to Jewish education for the whole family.

Yom Rishon

Yom Rishon means “Sunday or First day of the week” in Hebrew. We created this program to introduce children to Jewish traditions.  Some of our Yom Rishon children have limited exposure to to rituals, holidays and Hebrew at home.  Others went to Jewish preschool, and their families are hoping to continue the Jewish conversation in a welcoming, pluralistic environment.

The recipe for Yom Rishon:
     • A cup of Hebrew
     • 3 table spoons of social skills
     • A pound of Jewish holidays and half pound of Jewish traditions
     • Handful of active games
     • Healthy snack for soul and body
     • A pinch of Cooking Jewish food
     • And a sprinkle of Israel

The Yom Rishon group meets every Sunday at 9:30-11:00 AM.

Sunday schedule:
9:30 – 9:50 – Weekly Torah portion or Hebrew learning
9:50 – 10:00 – Discussion or Active game
10:00 – 10:10 – Snack
10:10 – 10:30 – Cooking project or Art project
10:30 – 10:50 – Skit or Role games
10:50 – 11:00 – Clean up and Dismissal

The Yom Rishon program gives the opportunity for the families who may not be ready to join a synagogue to provide their children with a taste of Jewish culture and tradition.  Our Yom Rishon families are seeking a cultural Jewish experience for their children’s education. We share Jewish values without any religious agenda and welcome families from any backgrounds including interfaith.

YOM RISHON WILL BEGIN ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2016 and go through May 21, 2017.
