Audition Sides & Character Breakdowns:
For the auditions, please prepare one of the sides below

Eugene Morris Jerome, age 15, Jewish: Download side.
The narrator of the story; 15-year-old boy who has recently discovered girls in a BIG way. He is very bright, quick-witted, and observant of everything going on around him, which he then notates in his journal -- someday to become his memoirs.

Stanley Jerome, age 18, Jewish: Download side.
Eugene's older brother. In order to help the family, he works in a factory instead of attending college. Stanley does this without complaint, but he does feel the weight of his obligations and struggles between listening to his own heart and convictions and doing what the family needs him to do.

Laurie Morton, age 13, Jewish: Download side.
Blanche's youngest daughter is pampered by the adults due to her heart flutters. She's a studious, yet quietly mischievous, 13-year-old who is all ears around the adult situations. She appears innocent, but she really has a grasp on what the others around her are "up to."

Nora Morton, age 16, Jewish: Download side.
Blanche's oldest daughter. She's a beautiful and ambitious 16-year-old girl with dreams of Broadway. She is often resentful of her younger sister  and angry at her father for dying and leaving her with a weak mother.

Plot Synopsis:
Set in the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn, New York in September 1937 during The Great Depression, this coming-of-age comedy focuses on Eugene Morris Jerome, a Polish-Jewish American teenager who experiences puberty, sexual awakening, and a search for identity. Dreaming of baseball and girls, Eugene must cope with the mundane existence of his family life: formidable mother, overworked father, and his worldly older brother Stanley. Throw into the mix his widowed Aunt Blanche, her two young (but rapidly aging) daughters and you have a recipe for hilarity, served up Simon-style.
